Effectively caring for your rugs
Posted by virayvibe under Home
Using rugs is the cheapest and most convenient way of giving more life to your otherwise drab home. Area rugs of various designs, colors, and shapes in different parts of the home can give your rooms more character and perfectly attune the look of your home to your family’s unique tastes.
Natural wear and tear and the accumulation of dirt and dust will irreparably damage your rugs over time. So to ensure the long life of your home rugs and maximize the return on your investment, take good care of them and clean them frequently. Floor rugs which get trampled on quite often should be dusted at least once a week. Persistent dirt can be effectively removed from rug fibers and pores using a high power vacuum cleaner, which usually comes with several attachments like brushes to make cleaning more effective. Rugs in high traffic areas of the home should be vacuumed at least once a week; wall rugs or rugs in more remote areas of the home should be cleaned less frequently to minimize the strain on the fibers. For more persistent dirt and stains, you can wash your rugs in a solution of light detergent and warm water; strong detergents and harsh cleaning agents will just ruin the smoothness of the rug fibers.
Different rug materials are affected by dirt differently; because natural fibers like wool attracts moisture more than synthetic fibers like polypropylene or polyester, it does not effectively store static electricity and consequently, it does not attract dust and lint in the air. Cheap rugs made of synthetic raw materials are also more prone to damage from harsh scrubbing but are less susceptible to natural wear and tear than woolen rugs.
Remember that your choice of rug material greatly affects how you should care for your rugs; keeping the above tips in mind will guarantee that your rugs will continue to beautify your home for longer periods of time.
